Chasing Shadows

The classic street photography that I admired - pictures by Garry Winogrand, Joel Meyerowitz or Vivian Maier - always seemed to be about happenings, interactions and connections. Yet when I went out looking to capture similar scenes, I could never find them and my street photography only really developed when I began to focus on the disconnects instead.
The pictures in this series were made as I explored new cities and struggled to make connections in my personal life. The solitary figure in each image provided an elusive yet recurring presence, an anchor in an otherwise unfamiliar setting.

Chasing Shadows is an ongoing street photography series begun in 2011 and shot in various locations, including Porto, Tangier, New York and London. The images were captured on 35mm film and hand-printed in the darkroom at Photofusion, London.

Shot on Olympus OM-10 with Kodak Portra and Ilford HP5 films
